Since the heady early days of online bingo in the early 2000′s we have seen a plethora of online bingo sites launch, mainly (especially since the US gambling ban) targeting the UK. With these sites now numbering in the hundreds, with some lavishing millions on television advertising it is indeed fairly difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff, so how best to go about doing this?

As with many things nowadays the first port of call for many is an internet search engine, and for the vast majority this means Google. Usually this means using a generic search term like “bingo” or even a brand name of one of the larger sites.

However, unsurprisingly for these sorts of terms, Google is dominated for these sorts of terms by firstly the large online bingo companies, or secondly by bingo portals which can afford to “optimise” their sites thanks to large sums of advertising they are receiving from the big bingo sites, and this may not represent your best option.

Whilst some of these portals may have some good content, for example up to date information about promotions and prizes, and various other comparison style features, they cannot help but be swayed by the sites which are paying to be featured, especially when the sums of money involved can be many tens of thousands of pounds a month. Official “awards” should also be treated with a degree of suspicion, after all the bigger bingo sites, inevitably, are better able to promote themselves in any voting scenario.

Real choice however can be found by using longer, and slightly more esoteric search terms, and perhaps also by hunting out the sites/forums where real bingo player reviews are posted. Social bookmarking sites such as stumbleon, and Digg, can also be a good source of site which people feel moved to recommend to other web users.

In this era of Facebook, and Wikipedia, trusting your peers is definitely the way to go in bingo and they are a few sites which are starting to latch onto this trend, and user generated reviews and content is definitely an area which is set to grow and grow in the online bingo world.
